LinkedIn is a great resource for business networking on-line.  You register, upload your professional background and provide information about your current business.  You can then:

  • Search for and connect with people you know
  • Search by company or organization for people you may have worked with in the past
  • Add connections to these people
  • Find Groups of similar interest (discussion boards and news feeds)
  • Add Events that you are sponsoring or attending
  • Set up a Company page
  • Recommend people and ask for recommendations
  • Ask and answer questions
  • And much more …..

Once you’ve set up your profile, you’ll probably have people contacting you to connect and, if there is someone that is a connection to one of your connections, you can ask for an Introduction.

Is your Face on Facebook?

Facebook has become a social networking phenomenon with over 500 million worldwide users. While, its value for keeping friends and families connected has been established, the use of Facebook for business networking has been rapidly developing.  Perhaps the most popular business application is “Pages” which allows you to create a profile of your business; originally called a “fan” page, now called a “business” page. It is a great way to keep business contacts updated and to spread information about a business. There is also an Event listing feature that is very helpful for businesses that sponsor many events.   Click here to learn how to set up your business page.

Do You Tweet?

Twitter has been gaining new users continually and has become an effective business tool. It is a method to instantly send short messages.  A message is called a “tweet” and can be “re-tweeted” – sent to other Twitter users.  Messages can be received on-line or as a text message on a mobile phone.  Keep your messages relevant, interesting and professional. Sign up to “follow” people and join in the conversation.
